Baku: Angola may soon sign a memorandum of understanding with Azerbaijan to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector. African countries, particularly Angola, face significant challenges due to infrastructure shortages amidst rapid urbanization, as highlighted by Angola's Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Santos, during the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Minister Santos expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan's efforts in organizing the event, noting the forum's high-level agenda and discussions. He emphasized the urgent need for increased financial resources to address infrastructure deficits that hinder urban development in Africa. The minister stressed that while ideas abound, tangible actions and financial backing are essential to meet the New Urban Agenda's goals.
Minister Santos also pointed out the economic similarities between Azerbaijan and Angola, particularly in the oil sector, suggesting this could pave the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation. He noted the broad potential for collaboration in tourism and other areas, indicating that a memorandum of understanding might be established to formalize these efforts. The minister expressed optimism about developing partnerships in various sectors over the short, medium, and long term.
