Baku: The New Urban Agenda remains the international community's common roadmap for building inclusive, safe, sustainable, and resilient cities, President of the United Nations General Assembly Annalena Baerbock stated in her video address during the opening ceremony of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Baerbock highlighted that the principles of the New Urban Agenda are as relevant today as they were a decade ago when they were first adopted. She reiterated the agenda's role as a shared guideline for urban development worldwide.

Baerbock emphasized the document's main goal, which is to promote the development of inclusive, safe, sustainable, and resilient urban environments. She stressed the importance of these principles in addressing current and future urban challenges.

In her address, Baerbock announced that in July 2026, the United Nations General Assembly will convene a two-day high-level meeting for the midterm review of the New Urban Agenda's implementation. She remarked that this meeting will serve as a crucial platform for renewing political commitments and accelerating the agenda's deployment.
