Anne Carson Awarded 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature

Toronto:Anne Carson has been named the 2026 Nobel Prize laureate in Literature for her innovative contributions to contemporary literature.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Carson's recognition is attributed to her bold and innovative body of work that creates new forms for contemporary literature through a playful dialogue with classical traditions.

Anne Carson, born in Toronto on June 21, 1950, is a Canadian poet, writer, essayist, and translator. She is also a scholar of classical literature and serves as a university professor. Carson earned her doctorate from the University of Toronto in 1981 and has taught at several prestigious institutions in the United States and Canada, including Princeton University, New York University, and the University of Michigan.

Her literary work is known for synthesizing ancient Greek mythology with modern literature, blending poetry, prose, and essay genres in a unique manner. Some of her best-known works include "Autobiography of Red," "The Beauty of the Husband," "Nox," and "Red Doc>." Carson has received multiple accolades for her work, including twice winning the Griffin Poetry Prize, as well as receiving the T. S. Eliot Prize, the 2020 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature, and the 2021 PEN/Nabokov Award.

In 2025, the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to László Krasznahorkai. The first Nobel Prize in Literature was given to Sully Prudhomme in 1901.
