Armenia Accused of Breaching Environmental Protocols Under Espoo Convention

BAKU: Armenia continues to significantly breach the obligations set by the Espoo Convention, focusing on the necessity of environmental impact assessments in border regions, as stated by Amin Mammadov, co-founder of the “Environmental Protection First” coalition.

According to Trend News Agency, during a briefing, Mammadov discussed the detrimental impacts of Armenia’s mining industry on the ecology of Azerbaijan and the broader South Caucasus region. He emphasized that both Azerbaijani government bodies and civil society organizations have been vocal in their opposition to these infringements.

The coalition has utilized satellite imagery to prepare and distribute a detailed report on the operations of Armenian industrial enterprises located near the Azerbaijani border. This document has been shared with both diplomats and media representatives accredited in Azerbaijan. Additionally, Mammadov’s coalition is actively urging Armenia to allow expert monitoring teams from Azerbaijan and other countries to acces
