Yerevan: Recent political repressions in Armenia have increased, leading to mounting concerns over human rights violations and the establishment of an authoritarian regime. Political commentator Sahil Karimli expressed these concerns in an interview with AZERTAC, highlighting that the repression of civil society and the suppression of opposition voices have been ongoing issues in Armenia, with little to no response from Western countries, especially the European Union.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the situation in Armenia has worsened, with the current government under Nikol Pashinyan targeting opposition leaders, journalists, and bloggers. These actions are seen as direct attacks on media freedom and an increase in pressure against journalists. Furthermore, the government has extended its repressive measures to religious institutions, targeting clergy and the church, which has heightened internal tensions.

The political climate in Armenia is further complicated by the activity of radical and occupation-minded forces, which are trying to disrupt the peace treaty process with Azerbaijan. Opposition groups and activists are seeking to weaken Pashinyan’s position ahead of the parliamentary elections, prompting the government to respond with repressive measures. Despite these challenges, the Armenian authorities are urged to uphold legality and respect human rights, ensuring freedom of speech and refraining from oppressive practices.
