Artificial Intelligence to Revolutionize Development at Azerbaijan’s Bahar Field

Baku: SLB and SOCAR are collaborating on a redevelopment project of the Bahar field, one of Azerbaijan's oldest oil and gas sites, as revealed by Steve Gassen, Executive Vice President for Geographies at SLB. Gassen made this announcement during the 'Leaders' Speeches: Leaders' Perspectives on Energy Transformation and Future Strategies' session at the Baku Energy Forum.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Gassen described Bahar as a mature field with a long production history, facing several development challenges. To address these issues, SLB and SOCAR are exploring opportunities for redevelopment by leveraging artificial intelligence-based digital technologies. Gassen emphasized that the application of AI-supported geological modeling and subsurface analysis solutions is intended to unlock the field's development potential and facilitate conditions for an investment decision.

The SLB executive further highlighted the importance of creating sustainable energy supply chains to ensure energy security. He noted that technology, alongside cooperation, is crucial in this process. Additionally, Gassen mentioned SLB's ongoing collaboration with bp in Azerbaijan. The use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies at the ACG fields has contributed to improved production efficiency and optimized drilling costs.
