Baku: The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Gurbanmammet Elyasov, held a meeting with Hikmet Hajiyev, the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the meeting, both sides synchronized their positions on current issues of bilateral cooperation and positively assessed the outcomes of 2025, describing it as a new chapter in Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations. The past year was marked by an intensive agenda, including mutual high-level visits and the active development of cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
It was noted that, thanks to the initiatives of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, as well as the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, bilateral relations are developing in a spirit of brotherhood and strategic partnership. There has been active strengthening of cooperation in the energy, transport (including within the framework of the Middle Corridor), trade, and cultural sectors.
The meeting also addressed issues related to upcoming international forums, meetings, and other events scheduled for 2026 in both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Special attention was paid to the forthcoming 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, set to take place in the autumn of 2026 in Turkmenistan. Azerbaijan's participation in this format for the first time as a full-fledged participant was emphasized as an important step toward further strengthening regional cooperation and dialogue.
