Assistant to President of Azerbaijan Urges Armenia to Amend Its Constitution

Baku: If Armenia desires peace in the region, it must actively participate in the ongoing court proceedings in Baku, stated Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration. This statement was made to journalists and reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hajiyev emphasized the need for Armenia to amend its constitution, specifically regarding territorial claims against Azerbaijan. He drew parallels with historical precedents, such as Ireland’s constitutional amendments which led to Great Britain recognizing the full sovereignty of Northern Ireland.

Hajiyev further highlighted that the assessment of damages caused by Armenia to Azerbaijan is crucial for achieving comprehensive peace in the region. He dismissed the relevance of the Minsk Group, stating that attempts to revive it are unrealistic. He asserted that Armenia’s focus on preserving the group is misplaced. Resolving constitutional issues, particularly those involving Armenia’s territorial claims, is seen as a necessary step toward fostering better conditions for peace in the region.
