Shusha: Large-scale restoration and reconstruction work has been carried out in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur over the past five years, Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the President in the Shusha district, said at the event titled 'Post-conflict urban planning: Restoring destroyed identity and rebuilding an integrated future' held at the Azerbaijan pavilion within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Karimov stated that restoration and reconstruction work in the city of Shusha began immediately after its liberation and has developed rapidly over the past few years. He emphasized the severe consequences of the occupation, noting that before Shusha's liberation on November 8, the city had suffered extensive damage. Karimov described the destruction in the liberated territories as unprecedented, with cities and villages devastated and cultural heritage sites in ruins. The ecological balance of the Lesser Caucasus was also severely disrupted, and the destruction witnessed was regarded as a deliberate attempt to erase Azerbaijan's cultural heritage.

Karimov highlighted that 27 historical monuments, including mosques, have been restored in Shusha so far. He announced that conservation work on an additional 15 historical monuments is set to begin this year. These projects are crucial, and design work will also commence on several monuments, including the monument to Khurshidbanu Natavan.
