Baku: Azerbaijan has successfully met the requirements for environmentally friendly and resilient energy within the COP zones, according to Ayan Najaf, a member of the Coordination Council of the COP29 Operational Company. This announcement was made during a memorandum signing ceremony with Green Energy Power Plant LLC in Baku, as reported by Trend News Agency.

According to Trend News Agency, Ayan Najaf emphasized the focus on sustainable development and long-term strategies within the COP area. She highlighted the necessity of validating and substantiating all elements to ensure sustainability and align with principles of long-term operation. The structure of the Baku Olympic Stadium, which will host COP29, is designed for permanent use and aims to support eco-friendly solutions and hybrid supply models.

Najaf expressed confidence in meeting the criteria for sustainable energy consumption, demonstrating various models of this approach. The efforts have led to significant advancements, using analysis result
s to create practical solutions and establish new standards for sustainable development that could inspire similar actions globally.

The distinction between the Blue Zone, for individuals registered with the UNFCCC, and the Green Zone, managed by the COP host country, was clarified. This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29, a decision made during the COP28 plenary meeting in Dubai last December. Baku is expected to become a focal point, welcoming approximately 70-80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, established at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aims to prevent dangerous interference with the climate system. COP, the Conference of the Parties, serves as the highest legislative body overseeing the Convention’s implementation. With 198 countries as parties, COP events are usually held annually unless otherwise agreed upon. The inaugural COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, Germany, with its secretariat based in Bonn.
