Baku: Azerbaijan is moving closer to establishing a green bond market, an initiative aimed at enhancing sustainable development in the country, as announced by the Governor of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, Taleh Kazimov.
According to Trend News Agency, during a forum in Baku titled “Green finance and sustainable development,” Kazimov highlighted the steps being taken towards this financial innovation. “Having studied international best practices in the field of green bonds, a legal framework has been developed to ensure compliance with globally accepted standards and principles. The draft has already been submitted to the government,” he stated. This move signals Azerbaijan’s commitment to aligning its financial practices with global environmental goals.
The Baku Stock Exchange has expressed support for the green bond initiative, indicating a growing interest and infrastructure readiness within the country’s financial markets to support environmentally-focused investments. Additionally, three Azerbaijani
companies are reportedly preparing to issue their green bonds, marking a significant step towards diversifying the nation’s economic and environmental strategies.
This development not only aligns with global trends towards sustainable investment but also opens up new avenues for economic growth and environmental responsibility within Azerbaijan.
