BAKU: Azerbaijan has achieved 90 percent completion in the preparations for the upcoming COP29 event, as reported during a recent media tour at the Baku Olympic Stadium.
According to Trend News Agency, Ismayil Isayev, a member of the Coordination Board under COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company, shared the progress with reporters. He detailed that the preparatory work at the venue is nearing completion, with several events scheduled for the end of this month to fully test the facilities. ‘We’ll be fully confident that preparations for the start of the COP29 event are completed. Inclusiveness in the premises is implemented at a high level, and certain measures have been taken to ensure accessibility,’ Isayev stated.
The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made during the COP28 plenary meeting in Dubai on December 11 of the previous year. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aims to prevent dangerous human interference with th
e climate system. The Conference of the Parties (COP), as the highest legislative body of the Framework Convention, oversees its implementation. The convention includes 198 countries, and unless agreed otherwise, the COP meets annually. The first COP took place in March 1995 in Berlin, Germany, with its secretariat based in Bonn.
