Belem: A delegation led by the Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Anar Guliyev, visited the city of Belem, Brazil, for the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), the Committee told APA. The Chairman addressed the Ministerial Meeting on Urban Planning and Climate Change and participated in the round table on “Informal Settlement, Territorial Transformation and Housing,” where he highlighted the need for multi-level cooperation to address housing and climate challenges.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Anar Guliyev showcased Azerbaijan’s efforts in restoration works based on “smart” and “green” urban planning principles in areas liberated under the “Great Return” program. He emphasized Azerbaijan’s co-chairing role in the Baku Sustainability Coalition and the UN Intergovernmental Working Group on Affordable Housing for All, which has significantly contributed to the integration of urban planning and climate agendas.
Speaking at the Ministerial Meeting during Urban Planning Day at COP30, Guliyev noted that Azerbaijan’s hosting of COP29 has invigorated multilevel climate cooperation. He stressed the importance of the Baku Sustainability Coalition alongside the Multilevel Action Pathways (MAP) initiative.
During his visit, Guliyev met with Brazilian Minister of Cities Jader Filho to discuss cooperation opportunities in sustainable and inclusive urban development. He also shared information about preparations for the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) scheduled to be held in Baku.
Throughout his engagements at COP30, Anar Guliyev, as the national coordinator for WUF13, extended invitations to participants for the 13th World Urban Forum in Baku. He underscored that this global platform will facilitate discussions on the future of cities, climate sustainability, and innovative urban planning.
