Azerbaijan and Central Asia Commit to Regional Security and Economic Cooperation

Turkmenbashi:The Joint Declaration signed today at the conclusion of the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Central Asia highlights Azerbaijan's active participation in regional platforms and preparations for the upcoming 7th CICA Summit in Baku on October 15, 2026.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the declaration reaffirms the commitment of Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries to enhance cooperation within the United Nations and other international organizations. The focus is on ensuring regional security while respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity. The parties plan to intensify efforts to combat terrorism, organized crime, cybercrime, illegal migration, and cross-border emergencies.

The heads of state emphasized the importance of developing trade and economic relationships, including investments and business forums, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and e-commerce. Priorities in the transport sector include the development of transit and transport infrastructure, notably the East-West and North-South corridors. In terms of energy, the document highlights new projects such as exporting green energy from Central Asia to Europe, involving Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

The declaration also praises the role of Azerbaijan's International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Acceleration Centre in promoting digital innovation and startup development. Other areas for close cooperation include interparliamentary relations, environmental protection, climate change, advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, industry and pharmaceuticals, telemedicine, cultural and humanitarian ties, sports, tourism, and youth policy.
