Baku: Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, met with Yang Tianfu, President of PowerChina Resources Limited, to discuss ongoing and future energy projects between the two nations. The meeting emphasized the growing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the PowerChina Group, particularly in renewable energy.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the collaboration between Azerbaijan and PowerChina has been fruitful, with the latter playing a significant role in advancing Azerbaijan's green energy initiatives. Notably, Huadong Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of PowerChina, has been instrumental as the general contractor for the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant project and is currently overseeing Masdar's 200 MW Absheron Wind Power Plant project.
During the meeting, both parties explored the development of a 160 MW solar power plant and an offshore wind energy project in the Caspian Sea's Azerbaijani sector. They also assessed the progress of the ongoing solar power plant project. Minister Shahbazov highlighted the significance of projects executed by PowerChina Resources Limited, stating they are priorities for the Ministry of Energy. Discussions also addressed the integration of renewable energy sources into the national grid, the enhancement of electricity transmission infrastructure, and the potential deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
The meeting underscored the importance of maintaining the stability and reliability of the power system during the implementation of new generation capacities. This would be achieved by considering the outcomes of the ongoing feasibility study on the electricity grid's development. Both parties concluded by affirming their commitment to further cooperation and agreed to enhance technical consultations to ensure the successful execution of these projects.
