Baku: The Azerbaijan-Czech Republic Joint Working Group on energy cooperation convened for its second hybrid meeting to evaluate the current state of bilateral relations and explore future opportunities in the energy sector. This meeting underscored the critical energy partnership between the two nations, which serves as a crucial element of their bilateral relationship.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijan plays a pivotal role in ensuring the Czech Republic's energy security by fulfilling a significant portion of its oil requirements. Both countries acknowledged the strategic importance of expanding the Southern Gas Corridor, which is vital for the European Union's energy security and gas diversification. There is a strong mutual interest in utilizing this corridor to supply gas to the Czech market.

The discussions also covered potential areas for expanding cooperation, including energy security, diversification of energy supply, the transition to green energy, and enhancing energy efficiency. Czech companies with Energy Service Company (ESCO) experience have been invited to participate in a roundtable event during Baku Energy Week on June 2, 2026. This event aims to foster direct connections between international ESCO firms and key Azerbaijani energy consumers.

The meeting was brought to a close with the signing of a protocol that summarized the discussions held by the Joint Working Group.
