Athens:Delegations from Azerbaijan and Greece have engaged in discussions to strengthen customs cooperation between their nations, focusing on several key areas.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the discussions aimed at establishing connections between the customs academies of both countries, enhancing the exchange of expertise related to authorized economic operators, and forming working groups of experts in priority areas. Additionally, they are preparing a joint Action Plan to outline specific measures and main areas for bilateral customs cooperation.
The meeting took place in Athens during the 6th session of the Joint Commission on Economic, Industrial, and Technological Cooperation between the Azerbaijani and Greek governments. Led by Bahruz Guliyev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, and Dimitrios Bourikos, Head of the General Directorate of Customs and Excise of the Hellenic Republic, the delegations discussed sharing best practices and expanding their collaborative efforts.
During the meeting, Greece shared information about recent advancements in its customs system, highlighting digitalization efforts and the development of a risk- and data-based customs management model using modern technologies. The Azerbaijani delegation's insights into their customs procedures, particularly in measuring and analyzing customs procedure durations, were noted as valuable by their Greek counterparts. An exchange of experience in this area was deemed potentially beneficial.
The Azerbaijani representatives also detailed their experiences with the Time Release Study (TRS), the development of their canine service, and their ongoing cooperation with the World Customs Organization, alongside efforts in capacity building.
