Baku:Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, met with Philippe Metzger, Secretary-General and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), to explore cooperation on standardization within the energy sector.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting emphasized enhancing cooperation through Azerbaijan's associate membership with the IEC. They discussed the application of international standards in energy transition, electrification, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and new technologies.

The IEC Secretary-General praised Azerbaijan's increasing role in the global energy and climate agenda, highlighting initiatives it advanced during its COP29 presidency to combat climate change. He noted that Azerbaijan's recent associate membership has opened new avenues for cooperation, with the IEC ready to support standardization and conformity assessment in electrical engineering, electronics, clean energy, and energy efficiency.

Electrification was identified as a key trend for the future development of the global energy system and economy. The meeting underlined the need for new power generation capacities and modern infrastructure to ensure efficient transmission and delivery of electricity to consumers.

Additionally, the discussions included views on the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor project.
