Baku:Elnur Baghirov, Chairman of the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control, met with Philippe Metzger, Secretary-General and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to discuss expanding cooperation.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Baghirov provided Metzger with an overview of Azerbaijan's plans to enhance its national standardization system and outlined key strategic objectives. He emphasized the significance of expanding electrotechnical standardization within the framework of Azerbaijan's associate membership in the IEC and the importance of adopting international standards for electrical, electronic, and related technologies.

Metzger expressed his perspective on strengthening ties with Azerbaijan and forming new partnerships in fields such as electrical engineering, energy, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and other innovative areas.

Discussions during the meeting also focused on developing quality infrastructure, implementing IEC standards, studying best practices, increasing participation in relevant technical committees on standardization, and enhancing Azerbaijan's role in international standardization activities.

The IEC, an international body responsible for conformity assessment systems in electrotechnology, involves over 30,000 experts from nearly 170 countries. The National Electrotechnical Committee was established in 2025 under the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute, and Azerbaijan's associate membership in the IEC became official on January 1, 2026.
