Azerbaijan and Iran Discuss Measures to Accelerate Transit Cargo Transportation

Baku: Shahin Baghirov, Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee, met with Foroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance and Head of the Customs Administration of Iran, in Bilasuvar. The meeting focused on expanding practical customs cooperation between the two nations, with a particular emphasis on the synchronized movement of vehicles through border checkpoints, establishing electronic data exchange, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering coordinated development for future cooperation.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the discussions also covered the streamlining of transit procedures. Both parties aimed to increase traffic capacity to facilitate faster border crossings for freight vehicles traveling between Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Iranian territory. Specific measures to achieve these objectives were outlined during the meeting.

At the conclusion of their discussions, the Azerbaijani and Iranian delegations signed a protocol on cooperation. The delegations also toured the customs and border checkpoint facilities operating in Bilasuvar, highlighting their commitment to improving transit cargo transportation.
