Azerbaijan and Iran Enhance Cooperation Between Law Enforcement Agencies

Baku: Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General, Kamran Aliyev, met with Mojtaba Demirchilou, the Ambassador of Iran, to discuss enhancing cooperation between their countries' law enforcement agencies. The meeting on April 24 focused on strengthening ties and addressing mutual concerns.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Kamran Aliyev expressed condolences on the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the recent civilian casualties in Iran. He emphasized the longstanding friendship and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Iran, and highlighted the positive impact of the friendly relations between their heads of state on legal cooperation.

Ambassador Mojtaba Demirchilou acknowledged the significance of the relationship between the two nations. He expressed gratitude for President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the Iranian Embassy to offer condolences and appreciated Azerbaijan's support during recent events. The ambassador noted that Azerbaijan was the first to provide humanitarian aid to Iran and valued the facilitation of aid passage through Azerbaijani territory.

The meeting included discussions on combatting crime, particularly drug trafficking, and improving legal assistance in criminal cases. Both parties emphasized the importance of cooperation in extradition, prisoner transfer, and enhancing the efficiency of joint activities in these areas.
