Baghdad: Eldar Salimov, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Iraq, presented a copy of his credentials to Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein. The meeting served as a platform for both nations to discuss the potential for strengthened regional cooperation.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Fuad Hussein expressed his desire for the continuation and enhancement of the strong historical ties between Iraq and Azerbaijan. He has visited Azerbaijan four times during various international events, showcasing the depth of the bilateral relationship. The Iraqi minister emphasized his country's interest in expanding economic and trade relations, citing the significance of the Baghdad-Baku flight route, operated by AZAL and Iraqi Airways since 2025, as a key factor in fostering these connections.

Ambassador Salimov echoed the importance of further developing the historically rooted relations between the two countries. He highlighted notable events such as the official visit of Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, to Iraq on May 7, 2025, the recent round of political consultations in Baghdad on April 20, and the Intergovernmental Joint Commission's fourth session in Baku on December 3-4. These events mark significant steps towards deepening cooperation.

Furthermore, the Azerbaijani ambassador stressed the necessity of maintaining high-level relations and a mutually beneficial dialogue between Baku and Baghdad. The meeting also covered various issues related to bilateral and regional cooperation, underscoring the commitment of both nations to a collaborative future.
