Baku: The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, held a significant meeting with the Chief of Defence of the Italian Armed Forces, General Luciano Portolano, during the latter’s visit to Azerbaijan. This meeting, as disclosed by the Ministry of Defense to APA, marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov expressed his satisfaction with the visit, highlighting the importance of Azerbaijani-Italian relations in the defense sector. He emphasized that the development of these relations is crucial not only in defense but also in other spheres.

General Luciano Portolano reciprocated the warm sentiments, expressing gratitude for the reception and underscoring the importance of reciprocal visits. He noted that such military cooperation is essential for enhancing the capabilities of both the Azerbaijani and Italian armies.

The meeting was further attended by Luca Di Gianfrancesco, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Azerbaijan. Discussions during the meeting focused on cooperation in military, military-technical, and military educational sectors, alongside regional security issues.
