Baku: Azerbaijan and the Netherlands have engaged in discussions to enhance cooperation on climate issues, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development and environmental resilience. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ambassador Marianne de Jong visited Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan’s Presidential Representative for Climate Issues, to explore current and prospective collaboration between the two nations.

The discussions focused on the outcomes of the COP29 conference and how these could facilitate future cooperation. Key areas of interest included collaboration with Dutch companies in water management, addressing challenges related to the Caspian Sea’s water levels, and initiatives for the rehabilitation and cleaning of lakes in Absheron, particularly through improved solid waste management.

The Embassy of the Netherlands in Azerbaijan highlighted the dialogue as an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with Dutch public and private sector stakeholders, particularly in the context of the World Urban Forum. Both parties reiterated their commitment to fostering sustainable urban development and enhancing climate resilience, setting the stage for a robust bilateral relationship in addressing pressing climate challenges.
