Azerbaijan and North Macedonia Presidents Discuss Bilateral Cooperation


Baku: Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, President of the Republic of North Macedonia, made press statements on March 11.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the two leaders addressed various avenues for enhancing bilateral relations, focusing on political dialogue, economic cooperation, and energy collaboration.



President Ilham Aliyev welcomed President Siljanovska-Davkova to Azerbaijan, highlighting her participation in the COP29 conference and expressing satisfaction over her second visit. He emphasized the dynamic nature of the political dialogue between the two nations and urged for further development in political relations, economic opportunities, and investments. Aliyev noted the nascent cooperation in the energy sector, with Azerbaijani gas reaching North Macedonia’s market at the end of the previous year. He expressed hope for increased gas supplies and highlighted Azerbaijan’s role in exporting natural gas to 12 countries, predominantly in Europe. Aliyev also emphasized the importance of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, noting Siljanovska-Davkova’s engagement with Azerbaijan’s cultural life and her participation in the 12th Global Baku Forum.



President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova expressed gratitude for the opportunity to visit Baku and acknowledged the significance of cultural diplomacy. She recognized Azerbaijan’s historical achievements and its active role in international relations. Siljanovska-Davkova highlighted the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the potential for strategic partnerships in energy and economic sectors. She called for the removal of visa requirements for diplomatic and service passport holders to foster closer ties and expressed enthusiasm for cooperation in tourism and academia. Siljanovska-Davkova also voiced her belief in learning from each other and the potential for a Strategic Cooperation Agreement, similar to those signed with other regional countries.



Both leaders concluded their statements with a focus on future cooperation, expressing optimism for stronger bilateral relations and shared achievements in various sectors.
