Baku: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation have issued a Joint Statement on resolving the consequences of the AZAL plane crash, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the statement was made following agreements between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia during their meeting in Dushanbe on 9 October 2025. The parties have agreed on a settlement concerning the aftermath, including compensation related to the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Embraer 190 airplane near Aktau on 25 December 2024. The crash resulted from the unintended operation of an air defense system in Russian airspace.

The Joint Statement highlights the mutual intention to continue building cooperation within allied frameworks. Both parties express confidence in the progressive development of Azerbaijan-Russia relations, emphasizing mutual respect and trust. The statement underscores the aim to strengthen good-neighborly relations and expand cooperation for the benefit of both nations.

The Ministries extended their deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the crash, sharing in the pain of this significant loss.
