Baku: In the first quarter of this year, Azerbaijan's electricity production saw a notable shift, with wind power generation increasing more than 50-fold, while overall electricity production experienced a slight decline.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the country generated a total of 6,540.9 million kWh of electricity from January to March, marking a 3% decrease compared to the same period last year.

The data reveals that out of the total electricity produced, 6,342.6 million kWh was marketable output, showing a 2.6% decrease. The majority of this production, 5,466.3 million kWh, came from thermal power plants, which also experienced a 4.3% decline compared to the first quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, electricity generated from hydropower and other renewable sources contributed to the remaining output.

Significantly, wind power plants in Azerbaijan generated 233 million kWh of electricity during the reporting period, reflecting a remarkable increase of 51.8 times from the same quarter last year. This surge highlights the country's growing focus on renewable energy sources.

Additionally, solar power plants produced 74.7 million kWh, resulting in a slight increase of 1.1% from the previous year. Electricity from biomass and waste incineration plants also saw substantial growth, with a 23.2% increase to 66.7 million kWh.

This data underscores Azerbaijan's continuing efforts to diversify its energy sources and promote sustainable energy production.
