Baku: Vusal Gasimli, Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), met with Kang Kymgu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Azerbaijan. The meeting focused on exploring cooperation opportunities in green energy transmission between the two nations.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the discussions revolved around the prospects for Azerbaijan-Korea economic relations, emphasizing the strategic significance of the Middle Corridor in global supply chains, and the potential integration of artificial intelligence in data-driven governance. Participants also addressed the development of a regional data strategy, the establishment of green transport corridors, and renewable energy cooperation.
Vusal Gasimli highlighted the Middle Corridor's role as more than a mere transit route connecting Asia and Europe, but as a multifaceted economic platform that fosters trade, investment, production, energy cooperation, and regional integration. Azerbaijan's strategic geographical location and its modern transport and logistics infrastructure enhance its position as a key hub within the corridor.
The meeting also underscored the potential synergy between Korea's advanced technological expertise in smart logistics and Azerbaijan's regional connectivity strengths. Discussions included the prospects of digitalizing port and railway infrastructure, the development of intelligent logistics systems, enabling real-time cargo tracking, and the introduction of paperless trade mechanisms.
The participants noted that the use of artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and forecasting models could optimize cargo flows, preemptively identify logistics risks, and expedite border-crossing processes. The dialogue further explored collaboration in green logistics, focusing on reducing carbon emissions, utilizing renewable energy sources, and advancing green energy transmission.
The meeting concluded with plans for joint research between analytical centers and research institutions from both countries, fostering expert exchanges, and organizing joint events in relevant sectors.
The meeting was also attended by Kim Changsoo, Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Azerbaijan; Rashad Najafli, Deputy Head of the Economic Analysis Department at CAERC; and Ismat Mehraliyeva, Head of the Digital Trade Hub.
