Azerbaijan and UK Focus on Strengthening Interparliamentary Relations

Baku: Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Speaker, Sahiba Gafarova, recently met with the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan, Lord Alderdice, to discuss enhancing interparliamentary ties between the two countries. The meeting took place on December 10 and centered on expanding bilateral cooperation in fields such as economy, trade, energy, renewable energy, education, and defense. Both parties emphasized the significance of reciprocal visits and continuous dialogue to fortify these relations.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the discussions highlighted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visits to the UK and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s participation at COP29 in Baku last year as pivotal moments in the evolving relationship. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova commended the progress in interparliamentary relations and the crucial role of sustained dialogue in further enhancing these connections. Meanwhile, Lord Alderdice acknowledged the advancement of bilateral relations across several sectors and stressed the importance of nurturing interparliamentary cooperation.
