Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan Discuss Strengthening Ties in Religious Affairs

Tashkent: A delegation from Azerbaijan, led by Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, recently visited Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to attend the First International Islamic Civilization Forum.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the delegation engaged in discussions with Muzaffar Komilov, Head of the Department for Religious and Educational Affairs of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan.

The discussions highlighted the ongoing development of relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, with both sides recognizing the role of their leaders' political will and consistent efforts in driving progress. The officials welcomed the opportunity to expand cooperation in religious affairs among other fields, noting that the bilateral ties are exemplary due to shared historical and cultural values.

Key points of the meeting included the significance of the inaugural Meeting of the Heads of State Bodies Responsible for Religious Affairs of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), which took place in Shusha. This gathering has been pivotal in enhancing institutional cooperation on religious matters within the Turkic world.

The two sides also explored the possibility of expanding exchanges of expertise, implementing joint projects, and boosting cooperation in religious education between their respective institutions. They expressed confidence that the First International Islamic Civilization Forum would play a significant role in promoting the rich heritage of Islamic civilization and encouraging values such as enlightenment and intercultural dialogue.

Sodik Toshboev, Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs of Uzbekistan, was also present at the meeting.
