MILAN: Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are in discussions to develop a national space system dedicated to Earth remote sensing, Trend reports. The talks took place at the International Congress of Astronautics held in Milan, Italy, and focused on collaborative efforts between the two countries to enhance their space capabilities.
According to Trend News Agency, the discussions included important recommendations and mutually beneficial proposals for creating a national space system in cooperation with Azerbaijan’s space agency, Azercosmos. The talks are part of a broader effort to leverage space technology for various applications, including environmental monitoring and resource management.
Azercosmos is positioning itself as a key player in the global space industry, aiming to participate in major research and development activities and collaborate with international partners. The agency’s goal is to establish a robust space ecosystem in Azerbaijan, which includes providing telecommunication and satellite imaging
services through its satellites Azerspace-1 and Azersky.
Azercosmos, a public legal entity under the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, is the successor to the Azercosmos Open Joint Stock Company. It is recognized as the first satellite operator in the Caucasus region and is wholly owned by the Government of Azerbaijan. The agency offers internet and television services across multiple regions, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia, and provides geoinformation services via its Earth Observation satellite.
