Tashkent: On August 23, a significant ceremony for the signing and exchange of documents between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan took place in Tashkent. The event was attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, marking a notable moment in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the presidents of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan signed the 'Treaty on Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan' and the 'Decision of the Third Meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan'. These documents underscore the countries' commitment to fostering ongoing collaboration and unity.
In addition to the treaty, several key agreements were exchanged. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan Rashad Mammadov and Chairman of the Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmalkhuja Mavlonov exchanged a memorandum focused on cooperation in the field of Cynology. Furthermore, an agreement on tourism cooperation was exchanged by Rashad Mammadov and Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Akkulov.
Cultural collaboration was also emphasized, with the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Adil Karimli and Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan Ozodbek Nazarbekov exchanging an agreement to enhance cultural ties. Economic cooperation was bolstered through the exchange of a program aimed at increasing trade turnover to 1 billion US dollars by 2030, signed by Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov and Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov.
The foreign ministers of both countries exchanged several agreements, including those on pension provision cooperation, a cooperation program for 2027-2028, and protocols establishing sister-city relations between cities in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. These exchanges symbolize a comprehensive effort to deepen bilateral relations across various sectors.
The ceremony represents a new chapter in the diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, highlighting a shared vision for mutual growth and cooperation in the years to come.
