Azerbaijan Announces Categories for Upcoming Amnesty

Baku: Categories of individuals covered by the forthcoming amnesty in Azerbaijan have been announced, APA reports. The draft amnesty act outlines a plan to release certain individuals from punishment or criminal liability. This initiative targets those who participated in combat operations to protect Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including the Patriotic War and an anti-terror operation conducted on September 19-20, 2023. Additionally, close relatives of individuals who were killed or went missing during these operations, as well as those who became disabled due to military provocations by the Republic of Armenia against civilians, are included.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the amnesty will also extend to women, individuals aged 60 and over, minors at the time of committing a crime, and other specified categories. This initiative was proposed by President Ilham Aliyev in relation to the ‘Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty.’
