Baku: Azerbaijan is set to implement the largest amnesty in its history, potentially impacting over 20,000 individuals. The amnesty act, submitted by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Milli Majlis, indicates a substantial move towards reducing the number of people incarcerated or under legal restrictions.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this extensive amnesty plan is expected to release over 5,000 convicts from imprisonment. Additionally, the initiative will include sentence reductions for more than 3,000 imprisoned individuals. It also aims to exempt over 7,000 convicts from restrictions on their liberty, while nearly 4,000 individuals will be freed from other non-custodial or suspended sentences. Furthermore, more than 1,000 people are anticipated to be exempted from criminal liability altogether.
