Baku: Azerbaijan border guards have successfully intercepted a drug smuggling attempt near the Iranian border. In the service area of the 'Horadiz' border detachment of the Border Troops of the State Border Service, suspicious movements by an unidentified individual were detected by a border patrol, as reported by the Press Center of the SBS to APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the border outpost was immediately alerted with the 'To Arms' command, leading to the sealing off of the service area and the initiation of a border search. These operational-combat measures resulted in the detention of a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, identified as 1989-born Huseyn Rafig Allahverdiyev. During the inspection of his belongings, authorities discovered and seized a total of 16 kilograms and 650 grams of the narcotic substance marijuana.
The relevant authorities are continuing operational-investigative measures regarding the incident.
