Lankaran: The Border Troops of the State Border Service in Azerbaijan have intercepted a significant drug smuggling operation on the border with Iran. The Press Center of the State Border Service revealed that suspicious movements were detected from the Islamic Republic of Iran into the Republic of Azerbaijan in the service area of the ‘Lankaran’ border detachment.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the border post was immediately alerted with the ‘Arms!’ command, resulting in the complete closure of the service area. In response to the suspicious activity, the border guard issued a ‘Stop’ command and pursued the suspected border violator. Despite warning shots being fired into the air, the suspect disregarded the orders and managed to escape back into Iran, abandoning the packages he was carrying.

Further border search and operational measures led to the discovery and seizure of a total of 18 kilograms and 100 grams of marijuana at the scene. The State Border Service continues to pursue operational and investigative measures in connection with the incident.
