Azerbaijan Climbs 30 Spots in Global Internet Speed Rankings


Baku: Azerbaijan has made a significant leap in global internet speed rankings, now positioned at 91st among 154 countries. This advancement marks a 30-position improvement since 2021, as shared by Hasan Omarov, the Acting General Director of Aztelekom LLC, during the ‘Online Azerbaijan: A New Stage in Digitization’ event.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Omarov highlighted that the United Arab Emirates leads the world in fiber-optic connection penetration, boasting a coverage ratio of 99.3%, while Singapore holds the second spot with a penetration rate of 95-97%. Furthermore, Azerbaijan has improved its standing in the UN e-Government Development Index, climbing 9 positions to rank 74th among 193 countries. The country achieved its highest score of 0.76 points, marking its first entry into the top category of digital governance rankings.



Omarov also projected that by the end of 2024, internet speeds in Azerbaijan are expected to reach 86 Mbps. He noted that the average internet speed in the country had already quadrupled, reaching 66 Mbps by the end of the previous year.
