Chief of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service Meets with ICMP Director General


Baku: The Chief of the State Security Service, Chairman of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Ali Naghiyev has met with the Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons, APA reports citing the State Commission.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, on March 10, Ali Naghiyev received Kathryne Bomberger, Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons. The meeting focused on the progress made since their last meeting in April 2022 concerning the search for Azerbaijani citizens missing due to Armenia’s military aggression.



Ali Naghiyev discussed the urgent measures undertaken to locate missing compatriots, a matter of significant concern for the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. He detailed efforts to identify burial sites related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, exhume bodies, and identify remains. Despite these efforts, Naghiyev noted Armenia’s continued non-cooperation in resolving the fate of missing persons.



Naghiyev also commented on the report by the International Commission’s Assessment Mission, which outlines the potential for locating missing persons. He expressed gratitude for the support provided by the International Commission to the State Commission’s efforts.



Ms. Kathryne Bomberger highlighted the importance of the report and praised the collaboration with the State Commission. She expressed confidence that these joint efforts would significantly enhance future cooperation between the commissions. The meeting also involved discussions on other mutual interests concerning the timely resolution of missing persons’ cases.
