Baku: Today marks the remembrance day of Mammad Amin Rasulzadeh, a pivotal figure in the founding of the first democratic republic in the East, APA reports. Born in the Novkhani district of Baku on January 31, 1884, Rasulzadeh played a significant role in the political landscape of Azerbaijan. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Rasulzadeh was instrumental in the foundation of the 'Hummet' organization alongside social democrats. In 1909, facing persecution from Tsarist authorities, he fled to Iran where he began publishing the newspaper Iran-e Nou. Following the suppression of the Constitutional Revolution, he moved to Trkiye and joined the Musavat party in 1911. By 1915, he had ascended to the role of Chairman of the Central Committee of the Musavat party. In 1918, together with Fatali Khan Khoyski, Rasulzadeh officially declared the first independent Republic in the East. His political journey took a tumultuous turn when he was arrested after the Bolshevik Occupation on April 28, 1920. Although release d and transferred to Russia under Stalin's orders, Rasulzadeh refused cooperation with Soviet Authorities and eventually left the USSR. He passed away in Ankara on March 6, 1955, and was laid to rest in the Asri cemetery. In recognition of his contributions, on December 24, 1992, Azerbaijan's President Abulfaz Elchibay issued an order to facilitate the return of Rasulzadeh's repressed family members to Azerbaijan and address their social conditions. Subsequently, on December 29, 1993, President Heydar Aliyev ordered the commemoration of Rasulzadeh's 110th anniversary. This tradition continued when President Ilham Aliyev declared 2018 as the Year of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic to mark its 100th anniversary. More recently, on December 30, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev signed an Order celebrating Rasulzadeh's 140th anniversary. The Azerbaijani embassy in Trkiye has also been involved in enhancing Rasulzadeh's tomb, coordinating with relevant Turkish state entities as part of the commemoration efforts.
