Baku: The Commission on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis has adopted a statement regarding the UAV attacks carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports. The statement says that on March 5, 2026, attacks were carried out against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with explosive warheads launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, it was noted that one of the UAVs damaged the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a secondary school building in the village of Shakarabad in Babek district. Four civilians were reported injured in the attacks.
The statement further elaborated that the targeting of the airport, which serves as the only international air gateway of the Autonomous Republic, and the attack on civilian infrastructure are viewed as violations of international law, an attack on Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and an act of terror.
The commission regards this act as a hybrid attack operation by Iran, combining military, political, and information components. Furthermore, there are observations of an information campaign in Azerbaijan's social media segment, spreading manipulative opinions supporting Iran's actions.
These assaults are seen as attempts to create confusion and fear among citizens, undermine trust in state institutions, and damage Azerbaijan's regional and international standing. The Azerbaijani side maintains its right to respond appropriately within the framework of international law.
The Commission on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats urges citizens and compatriots abroad to trust the state's strength and rely on official information.
