Baku: Azerbaijan is marking the fourth anniversary of the liberation of Fuzuli city, a significant milestone in the 44-day Second Karabakh War which saw Azerbaijani forces reclaim territories under Armenian occupation for nearly 30 years. According to Trend News Agency, the city of Fuzuli was liberated from Armenian control during a critical phase of the conflict, which spanned from September 27, 2020, to October 17, 2020. The Armenian army suffered considerable losses in personnel and military equipment. The victory in Fuzuli allowed Azerbaijani forces to advance further, securing several villages and pushing the front line away from densely populated areas, therefore reducing civilian exposure to conflict. The intense battles culminated on the nights of October 16 and 17, leading to the liberation of multiple villages within the Fuzuli district. The success of these operations has been attributed to the strategic leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and the collective resolve of the Azerbaijani people. T he liberation campaign did not just signify military success but also paved the way for political movements. Following the conflict, President Aliyev extended an offer of peace to Armenia, which was reportedly rejected, leading to continued tensions and sporadic confrontations in the region. Just days after declaring victory, President Aliyev, accompanied by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, visited Fuzuli to raise the Azerbaijani flag, symbolizing the restoration of sovereignty. The aftermath of the war also saw the disarmament of Armenian forces and the dismantling of separatist regimes in the area, consolidating Azerbaijan's control over its territory.
