Baku: At the end of the third quarter of 2024, Equinor maintained a serious incident frequency (SIF) of 0.3 per million hours worked, holding steady from the previous quarter’s performance. The company also recorded a slight increase in total recordable injury frequency (TRIF), which rose from 2.2 to 2.4 per million hours worked over the last 12 months.

According to Trend News Agency, the consistency in SIF reflects Equinor’s ongoing commitment to safety despite the challenges posed by its operational environments. The SIF rate, which includes serious injuries, has remained stable, demonstrating the effectiveness of the company’s safety protocols. Over the past year, Equinor has recorded seven oil and gas leaks, categorized by severity based on discharge rates, indicating areas where further improvements could be made.

Equinor’s executive vice president for safety, security, and sustainability, Jannicke Nilsson, emphasized the importance of learning from successful safety practices to continue reducing majo
r accident potentials and serious incidents. “We’re still headed in the right direction concerning major accident potential, hydrocarbon leaks, and serious incidents,” Nilsson stated. “We’re seeing a low incident frequency, and it’s crucial that we learn from what’s working well.”

The company is also proactive in enhancing safety awareness through its “Always Safe” initiative. This annual program involves collaboration with other operating companies and suppliers to highlight and mitigate factors that may impede safe work performance. For the upcoming fourth quarter, the focus of the “Always Safe” learning package will be on health and the working environment, aiming to further reduce incident rates and improve overall safety conditions.
