Astara: In a significant operation, employees of the Astara Customs Directorate of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan successfully intercepted and confiscated a substantial quantity of narcotic drugs, specifically marijuana, which was in illegal transit.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the operation took place at the 'South Astara' customs post, where a vehicle transporting a 'greens' cargo from Iran to Russia was flagged for further inspection. The customs officials, employing a stationary X-ray system, noticed suspicious signs that warranted a more thorough investigation.
The inspection, which included the use of a canine service dog, led to the discovery of marijuana weighing a total of 51 kilograms and 941 grams. The narcotic substance was concealed in the trailer of the vehicle, hidden within its packaging to avoid detection. The seizure underscores the ongoing efforts by Azerbaijan's customs authorities to combat drug trafficking through their territory.
