Baku: Azerbaijan has commenced the implementation of a $1.1 million heat supply project with backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project, titled "Decarbonization of the Heat Supply Sector and Promotion of Integration of Renewable Heat Energy," aims to transform the country's heating systems through technical assistance and integration of renewable energy sources.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the project is financially supported by the ADB's Clean Energy Fund and Technical Assistance Special Fund. Its primary goals include drafting normative legal documents aligned with the National Strategy in the heat supply sector and the Law "On Heat Supply," decarbonizing the heat sector, enhancing the energy efficiency of existing systems, optimizing tariff policies, promoting renewable heat energy through a pilot project, and formulating a development strategy for "Azeristilikt?chizat" JSC.

The ADB completed the consultant selection process in August, appointing a joint venture of 'NIRAS' (Denmark), "Integration Environment and Energy GMBH" (Germany), and "ENERGAZER" LLC (Azerbaijan) for the project's technical assistance. The services are projected to conclude by March 2027.

During the project's implementation, the Ministry of Energy and 'Azeristilikt?chizat' JSC will provide the necessary technical and organizational support.
