Azerbaijan Employment Support Program for better employment opportunities

The “Azerbaijan Employment Support Program” project is being jointly implemented by the World Bank and the State Employment Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan, since 2020.

In the current labor market where job opportunities are limited, the project’s main objective is to provide employment and income opportunities for Azerbaijan’s most disadvantaged citizens. The project primarily targets women, youth, low-income individuals, and internally displaced people.

Support is provided to start-ups in the services and production sector by enhancing governance, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the program, as well as testing business support for beneficiaries with strong growth prospects.

Based on best practices, the program expands and supports unemployed individuals in establishing small businesses. By increasing the Agency’s capacity, the project enhances employment counseling and job matching and enables referral to appropriate employment programs for job seekers. The project is to be implemented over a period of five years till 2025, and through the project, Azerbaijan addresses inequalities between rural and urban areas, income groups, and genders.

The DOST centers and Regional Employment branches in the region where the applicant is registered can assist with project applications.
