Azerbaijan Establishes New Allowance and Privileges for Diplomats Called to Military Service

Baku: Azerbaijan has introduced a new allowance and set of privileges for diplomats who are called up for military service. This development is part of an amendment to the Law on Diplomatic Service, with Articles 13.14-1 and 13.14-2 detailing the changes. These amendments were sanctioned by President Ilham Aliyev through a formal decree.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the law stipulates that any diplomatic service employee whose service is terminated due to compulsory military service or alternative service will receive an allowance. This allowance is calculated to be three times their average monthly state salary. Furthermore, the law provides that, unless the diplomatic service body is disbanded, individuals who held diplomatic positions before their military service will have the opportunity to return to their previous or an equivalent position. This is contingent upon their application to resume their diplomatic role within 60 calendar days following their discharge from military service.
