Azerbaijan-EU Roundtable Explores Renewable Energy Opportunities

Brussels:An Azerbaijan-EU Clean Energy Business Roundtable was held as part of the High-Level Energy Dialogue, co-chaired by Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan J¸rgensen.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting focused on renewable energy business opportunities, including wind power, grid infrastructure, and energy efficiency. Discussions emphasized practical steps to strengthen European private-sector involvement in Azerbaijan's clean energy sector. Azerbaijan aims to increase the share of wind and solar power to 38.7% by 2030, with new energy connections with the South Caucasus, Central Asia, T¼rkiye, and Europe offering European companies opportunities in electricity generation and transmission.

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov highlighted that green energy corridors could expand cooperation from Azerbaijan and the Caspian region to Central Asia. The projects, aligned with President Ilham Aliyev's strategic vision, are expected to benefit the environment, enhance energy security, and improve economic efficiency.

EU Commissioner Dan J¸rgensen noted significant opportunities in renewable energy and regional connectivity offered by Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Azerbaijan's ambitious plans for regional connectivity could be supported by European grid technologies, equipment, engineering expertise, and investment.

Following the completion of the feasibility study for the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Corridor, discussions aimed at attracting potential investors and strategic partners for the project's next stage. European companies were encouraged to engage in this corridor and other green energy initiatives, including upcoming renewable energy developments from 2028 and energy efficiency projects.

The event brought together representatives from Azerbaijan's energy institutions, SOCAR Green, the European Commission, WindEurope, Siemens Energy, Vestas, and other stakeholders.
