Baku: The age limit for judges serving on Azerbaijan’s Constitutional Court is set to increase following a proposed amendment to the “Constitutional Court Act” discussed at a recent session of the Milli Majlis, the Azerbaijani Parliament.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft law suggests raising the age limit for the term of office of a Constitutional Court judge from the current 70 years to 75 years. Furthermore, any judge who reaches the age of 75 will be allowed to continue their duties until a successor is appointed, for a period not exceeding six months.

Under the present law, judges who reach the age of 70 continue their responsibilities until a new appointment is made. The proposed amendment, which aims to extend the service period for experienced judges, was put to a vote and successfully passed on its third reading.
