Baku: Azerbaijan frequently becomes the target of international disinformation campaigns, as highlighted by Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum. Hajiyev, who also serves as the Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, addressed the ongoing efforts to modernize the country's media landscape.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hajiyev emphasized the comprehensive reforms being implemented, which are aimed at strengthening professional journalism and enhancing the capacity of media institutions. These reforms focus on promoting ethical standards, advancing media literacy, and supporting media adaptation to the rapidly evolving technological environment. Despite these efforts, Hajiyev pointed out the persistent challenge posed by large-scale disinformation and smear campaigns targeting Azerbaijan.

Hajiyev elaborated on the difficulty in combating these campaigns, noting that verifying information and providing fact-based responses has become increasingly challenging. He attributed part of the problem to technology giants and certain institutions, which, instead of fulfilling their role in upholding professional journalism, sometimes participate in spreading disinformation.

He further highlighted the importance of the Shusha Forum, stating that it serves as a reminder of the primacy of peacebuilding. The discussions at the forum aim to lay a foundation for a stronger, more resilient, and more responsible global information environment.
