Azerbaijan, Georgia, Trkiye, and Bulgaria Finalize Green Energy Transfer Document


Istanbul: The 3rd meeting of deputy ministers from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Trkiye, and Bulgaria took place in Istanbul, focusing on the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor project.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting was attended by a delegation led by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Orkhan Zeynalov. Discussions centered on Azerbaijan’s strategy for energy transition and the potential for renewable energy, particularly in exporting green energy. The delegation highlighted projects in Azerbaijan aimed at creating green energy zones and exploiting wind energy potential in the Caspian Sea. Plans for establishing green energy corridors linking Azerbaijan with Europe were also reviewed.



The meeting further deliberated on the draft Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Green Energy Transmission. This document is set to enhance electricity exchange between the four nations and establish a legal framework for the project. The text of the memorandum was agreed upon by all parties.



Additionally, a comprehensive meeting was held with Trkiye’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Zafer Demircan. The discussions included the establishment of a green energy corridor between Azerbaijan and Trkiye. The meeting covered the development of a green energy zone in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and evaluated the technical and economic aspects of infrastructure projects supporting green energy exports. These discussions involved experts from BCG consulting, representatives from ‘Azerenergy’ OJSC, and the Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS).
